On April 2, 2019, at the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation 2018 Donor Conference and 30th Anniversary Symposium, China Overseas Group was awarded the "2018 Special Contribution Award" to commend the group in Ethiopia with the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation , Ethiopian First Lady’s Office and Ethiopian Women’s Economic Empowerment Center jointly participated in the "Ethiopian Women’s Training Project".

As the first developmental project donated by a Chinese-funded enterprise in Ethiopia, the project has been formally implemented since July 2017. It has trained more than 100 local Ethiopian women in two years, which include traditional stone carvings, straw weaving and other handicrafts in Ethiopia. Handicrafts enable them to master certain skills and have basic economic abilities to better take care of their children’s health and education. Media such as Ethiopian National Television and Xinhua News reported on the project.
